Tarnation- Live (1996) (French Promo) MP3 & FLAC -For Chris-

"There is a restless weight upon me, in the shape of things to come."

Here's a rare Tarnation EP that was released in France as a promo in 1996 by 4AD. It is comprised of seven tracks recorded live in 1995 at Festival Fnac/Inrockuptibles, which makes this pretty desirable given that live recordings of this band (especially of 1995 vintage) are few and far between.

Tarnation- Live
1. Your Thoughts and Mine  (3:19)
2. Halfway to Madness  (5:50)
3. A Place Where I Know  (3:33)
4. The Hand  (3:01)
5. I Didn't Mean It  (5:53)
6. Two Wrongs Won't Make Things Right  (5:00)
7. Game of Broken Hearts  (3:52)

  2. Wow! This is a find. You probably know this, but incase you don't, Paula reformed Tarnation in '07 (it was just her, I think) and released "Now It's Time" on Birdman. I think you would like it if you haven't heard it yet. I have been trying to find Fright Wig recording to see if I could find her presence on them.

Thank you very much for this excellent blog!

  3. Anonymous, I have heard the reformed Tarnation, and while certainly good, I tend to like the older stuff best. Incidentally, Paula Frazer has an interesting CD of Tarnation demos that's also great. Thanks for your compliment about the blog. I've put my heart and soul into this and it's great to hear that you are enjoying the website. Let me know if you have any requests for future posts

  5. I've always wanted to hear this. Thanks. It's simply lovely. It's interesting to hear the songs that would come out on Mirador in this setting.

  6. Issi, you're welcome. Tarnation is one of those bands that just somehow fell through the cracks, but clearly deserved a better fate. I'm glad you enjoyed the live album. Before finding this, I had never heard them live- makes me wish I could go back to 1995 and search them out in a dark little club somewhere in New Mexico.

  7. ks, yes, I felt the same way. On "Mirador," they have a more immediate, intimate sound. The live album reminds me more of "Gentle Creatures." Great to have both versions. I have a few more Tarnation items in the pipeline. A single from "Mirador" with some non-album tracks and Paula Frazer's album of early demos. As soon as the mailperson delivers them, I'll post them on the blog

  8. Fun. That album of demos is everything I always wanted her solo stuff to be but that it never quite was. I always felt like the production on her solo stuff didn't showcase her strengths the way, say, Warren Defever's production did on Gentle Creatures. Those demos, though, are crazy good - haunting stuff. Have you heard the album before Gentle Creatures? I've always been curious what the sound on the pre-4AD album was like.

The bonus tracks look like they're from here. Partly a familiar track list with overlap with Gentle Creatures. My understanding is that the songs were redone for the 1st 4AD release.
