Public Image Ltd.- "Rise" Video (1986)

Not off one of the better P.I.L. albums, but what a fucking great song, well, I could be wrong; I could be right

  1. you're right :)
pretty crap album in the great scheme of things, but a brilliant song, and the packaging was great as well

  2. bedlam, yes, I remember that packaging. I've been meaning to post "Never Mind the Bollocks" for ages

  3. never mind the bollocks blew my mind when it came out, i loved it and i loved the way it appalled and terrified the establishment. good times.

listened to it the other day, it sounds more like the monkees every time i play it! (not in a bad way, it just sounds so poppy now... and i love the monkees)

doesn't sound the slightest bit threatening any more... funny how the world changes in 35 years!

  4. I had this album on cassette tape for my 1 hour commute to work. There are moments where PIL was inspired genius. Rotten can't sing, we all know that, yet his voice is the perfect sound for each song. And the backup musicians are just bloody fantastic. I could be wrong though......

Do you have the generic P.I.L. album? It is just called album or cassette or compact disc. Steve Vai is on it and some other notables.

The sellout pistols never scared anyone except Malcolm McLaren when everyone saw through the sell out.

  7. bedlam, I know what you mean; the Pistols were more "poppy" than they cared to admit. Regardless, it was a game changer

The Sex Pistols and The Monkees (love the comparison) What do you think about "Head" popping up somewhere in the Paisley series?

  8. scurfie, there are definitely some good songs on the generic album, but there's a lot of filler too. However, when it's good, it's good, such as "Rise"

    p.s. Don't know why, but I love Lydon's vocals

  9. Frankie, I thought I did, but after checking, it seems to have vanished. Easily rectified though

  10. Funny, I liked PiL Record when it came out, but Rise and FFF are the only tracks that really grab me now. Metal Box is STILL a kick in the ass, though, and I swear it gets better with each listen. Imagine the Pistols undertaking a 10 min. track and NOT having your head explode! And I love the Pistols, but seriously. Albatross was the track to tell the world that Mr. Lydon will be taking a left turn now, thank you very much.

I digress. Nice video for Rise, never seen it! Anger is an energy, after all.

  13. scurfie, I'll work on adding some to the mix. I guess "Never Mind" should come first, since I already have a draft prepared (just needs the review)
