Megaupload Siezed by the FBI

If you are trying to download and are finding it impossible, it is because today, the F.B.I. (Fascist Bureau of Intervention) seized the various domains of Megaupload.

Here is more info

As to what this means for the future of Plastic Palace People and (La) luna, I don't know, but I can tell you that I won't be posting anything for the foreseeable future. The music sharing landscape is changing quickly and it might be a good time sit back for a while and watch the fall out of this aggressive seizure. The writing on the wall doesn't look good.  ~ V

  2. A sad day indeed...

I'm kind of confused, though. I previously read that Megaupload was a Hong Kong-based company, but no mention specifically of Hong Kong in this article.

  3. I so understand it is a strange time for us all, especially the great people out there doing the blogs.

  4. I have no sympathy for you as you have been profiting by uploading the work of others. If you had used mediafire or zippyshare(where you don't get paid)then it would have been the sharing.
The people who run this type of blog certainly don't work for nothing but they expect the artists "they love" to do so.
Of course SOPA etc has to be stopped as censorhip, particularly one dictated by Hollywood is wrong but I'll be happy if non "free" sharing blogs are all closed down.

  5. To The Anonymous One: Show Your Face, You Don't Have Sympathy For The Blog But You Sure Did Download Every Fucking Record Posted Here...Show Your Face If You Care.

To V: Me Don't Care If The Megaupload Is Down As Long As This Stands In The Memory Of Us Your Faithful Readers. You've Posted A Lot Of Music I Knew Already And I Lot Of Music I Didn't Know And That Made Me Happy, You Don't See That Everyday So I Thank You One More Time. Thanks.

  7. I honestly think this will be a court case that will go on forever, with one appeal opening megaupload and another closing it for awhile. By the time this is over, people will be on to something else and the government will have wasted a fortune.

Thank you again for your site. I love your site & I really hope things get rolling again.

  8. Great site voixautre. There were some gems here, and I thank ye for them. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Take care man, see you around

  9. Actually, you can´t say that lossless music uploads are for previewing an album. In fact, why should I buy a cd when I can have cd quality, hi-res scans... for FREE? Maybe mp3s are not such a big problem for the music industry?
A lot of lossless music online is NOT out of print, you can easily get it. And there are sites where complete discographies are posted, not just a single cd to check out a band. I started dl music about 8 years ago and the blogging world has changed. No wonder the industry gets pissed and starts to fight back now. In fact, I´m surprised they waited till now. It´s sad but everyone complaining should think about how big this file-sharing/piracy/previewing-thing has gotten.
Maybe it goes on, maybe it dies. We´ll see

  10. Thanks voixautre for being always so committed on sharing your knowledge with all of us. It's been quite an education. I missed the Wall of Voodoo posts, oh well. Saludos.

  11. I am really sorry to hear these news ... this has been one of my all time favorite blogs. You shared such a different styles of music and they were all cool. It was great way of trying before buying ... and after d/l-ing music I wasn't familiar with before, I gladly went and shopped for original discs. But sometimes the stuff you shared is already out of stock or extremely over priced so thank you so much for your help. Keep your head high and I'm very grateful for your blog.
    Best regards

  12. Ah I'm getting abuse for my views!
Megaupload pays downloaders for the number of times the files are downloaded. So perhaps I'm not the one who needs to get their facts right.
I was directed here by someone who runs a free download blog, someone who doesn't illegally profit from uploading music files,so your accusation is a bit like your facts.
The bloggers who profit are a disgrace and should be made to pay.The removal of megaupload is only going to temporarily slow down the profits because the blogging thieves will just start uploading to another host which pays them.
I'm sure more abuse is on the way but the people giving it wouldn't work for free so.....

    1. Anon., stop spreading this profiting bullshit around. It simply isn't true. I've NEVER received ANY funds from MU. Also, I have never placed an MU advert on either blog. Now that this is cleared up, get your facts straight and go the fuck away

    2. Don't worry about this asshole, voixautre. You're sight's amazing, introducing us all to this great music we might never had even KNOWN about if it weren't for you!

    3. Of course you have a point Fred, but why argue artists deserve reward for their work, and bloggers shouldn't? I think coming here and calling bloggers a disgrace is a bit unfair and asking for trouble. Having run my own music blog years ago it was a lot of work, and unrewarded I might add, but it was just nice to share, the way I would with my friends. It's a shame dollars and cents have to spoil everything.

Anyway, hats off to voixautre for a beautiful blog.

    4. This particular Anon can fuck the fuck right off. Ive used Megaupload for years and i can tell you categorically that i have never received a single cent from them. Stupid eejit.

  13. If anything, your site has caused me to buy MORE music, since now there are a ton more bands I'm into that I never would have checked out if it wasn't for your site. Thank you.

  15. I totally understand your thoughts on this subject V, if i was in the public blog game i'd definately sit back for a while to see how things unfold. It just feels unwise to be posting a shitload of free music when the US Gov't is swinging their corporate cock (and this is without their beloved SOPA, PIPA and ICANN).

If Megaupload loses their battle then the filehost game is over, the rest will fall like domino's. If they manage to prove they upheld the law, by promptly responding to DMCA warnings who knows, itll probably still over to be honest. I wonder if all these links will ever be accessible again if MU pull a rabbit out the hat.

  16. I wonder if the musicians out there notice that ever since they shut down MegaUpload, the money has just been POURING in? - Ha, doubt it somehow.

  17. Anon, do you know how much Megaupload pays its users for files over 100 mb? It is zero cents. In order to profit off of FLAC files, one would have to SPLIT the file in to 100 mb parts. They would be better off uploading low quality mp3s than sharing FLAC if profit was the goal. So rather than spreading your lies I suggest making better use of your time, with activities like cutting your wrist in a bathtub until death.

  21. I am very sorry to see your blog go. You had so much stuff that was no longer available up here and the write ups were really interesting to read. This blog made me feel excited about music like back when I was a teenager reading Flipside and the like, searching for things I'd never heard before. I do hope that you will return at some point, though I can certainly understand if you don't. Thank you for everything!
