Bert Jansch / Ralph McTell- "Moonshine" (1975) Live Television Performance

While all the headlines are going on about the death of Steve Jobs, today saw another death that is far more significant to me- perhaps the greatest folk guitarist I've ever heard, Bert Jansch. Rest in peace Bert, I've learned much from you and you will be greatly missed.

  1. I never heard of Bert Jansch. Oh well my loss.

  2. scurfie, I will be posting several of his albums later this week. He was an amazingly dynamic British folk guitarist who was a huge influence on many British rock figures such as Jimmy Page.

  3. There's something good in all his albums up to the late seventies but I think Rosemary Lane may be the best - there's a marvellous ambience and feel that speaks of total mastery of his art. It feels like Jansch is there in the same room as you.

  4. Today I did some research and I had no idea that Jimmy Page stole the Black Mountain Side riff from Bert Jansch! I started looking for some of Bert's albums too so if you are posting I will wait. I'm late, as usual, to the scene but better late than never. ;)

  5. From Pentangle to the present his guitar playing was so emotive, it captured my attention from the first time my proggy college friend played it on his stereo. Saludos.

  6. Garry, I agree, "Rosemary Lane" is among his best, though I'm fond of "Moonshine" and "L.A. Turnaround" as well.

  8. El Isabelino, me too. Rebourn is great and all, but Jansch was always the one who captured my attention. Really liked his voice too
