This mid-sixties Austin garage band, led by the legendary Roky Erickson and featuring the electrified jug playing of Tommy Hall, is pretty much ground zero for the psychedelic rock movement. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to drop acid in Texas, well, here ya go...
It's a shame, but there is no bands like Elevators in today's music.
ReplyDeletesunday, great to hear from you. Such a frenzied and original sound. It's easy to hear their influence throughout the various psychedelic revivals over the years. Unfrortunately, due to massive drug consumption, these guys burned out pretty quickly. The next Paisley post will feature several of their albums :)
ReplyDeletePsychedelic Relics!
ReplyDelete13th Floor Elevators - one of these bands that unjustly didn't receive the attention they deserved when they were active. Too bad they disintegrated so quickly. I like "Easter Everywhere" even better than the debut (although Tommy Hall's electric jug gets on my nerves sometimes).
ReplyDeleteMichael, I'm considering posting all three albums with the next Paisley post. Truly a psych-band like no other
